The Osmo, compromised of three pieces: a base (universal - fits any iPad), letters of two colors (blue and red) and tangram pieces is supplemented by free apps available through iTunes. Three games are currently available:
- Words: Students are given pictures and, in a hangman style fashion, can work together or with a friend to place actual letter tiles in front of the iPad, with are "detected" and counted as correct (placed into puzzle) or incorrect (placed into bank at top of screen).
- Tangram: Students are given puzzle shapes and asked to assemble the puzzle (on the screen) with the tangible pieces on the tabletop. The iPad "detects" the pieces and prompts students with audio and visual cues when correct pieces are placed down.
- Newton: Only the base is needed for this game. Students will use tangible objects and/or drawings (can use regular pen/marker and paper) to "divert" on-screen balls into targets. This problem-solving game is more challenging than Tangram and Words.
Each Osmo kit comes with all three pieces (base, word pieces and tangram pieces) and is currently being offered at $59.00/each. Visit www.playosmo.com or @PlayOsmo!
